DCEU movies changed their release date schedule once again, delaying highly anticipated superhero movies of the year.
A news report on Wednesday confirmed two upcoming live-action DCEU movies from Warner Bros, Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are delayed from being released once again.
Shazam! 2 has been in the wraps for quite a while now but getting its release date delayed for the third time apparently.
It was originally scheduled to be released on December 21, 2022, and now it is slated to release on March 17, 2023.
On the other, The Aquaman sequel was meant to hit the theatres in March, whereas now it shifted to somewhere in the latter part of 2023, probably opening on December 25, 2023, on Christmas.
Shazam! Director David F. Sandberg, who also directed the sequel, recently addressed this shift in release date, giving appropriate reasoning for it.
He shared that Shazam! Fury of the Gods is delayed in release to avoid a clash or competition with the much-awaited Avatar: The Way of Water on IMAX Screens in December 2022.
He retweeted a Deadline Hollywood tweet regarding this news, saying, “ While I’m an impatient bastard who wants people to see it as soon as possible (the film will be fully done in just a few weeks), the move makes sense since Avatar was taking all IMAX/PLF screens. Fury of the Gods is a big movie [and] should be seen big!”
The director wants the audience to experience this film on the big screen, hence avoiding the dilemma of the people choosing between Avatar: Way of Water and his movie Shazam! Fury of the Gods might have financially bogged down both films to an extent.
The Turmoil Happening In Warner Bros.
There is just too much happening with Warner Bros. and DCEU right now that is impacting the stability of their long-term plans.
First of all, these are constantly delaying the release dates for one reason or another. That is also due to a lot of changes that are required to be made in these films.
Also, all this is happening amidst of when Warner Bros. is going through many internal changes.
Then comes the shocking cancellation of DC’ Batgirl movie which was initially planned to be released on the HBO Max but was later known to be getting its theatrical release.
The Batgirl film was nearly completed and Warner Bros. Discovery pulled the plug, also disheartening a lot of DC fans.
All the controversial fiasco going on with the highly anticipated DCEU Film, The Flash, actor Ezra Miller is not helping the situation at all.
And when you think that’s all, another DC animated universe film Aquaman: King of Atlantis, a show was removed from HBO Max just in the middle of all this chaos, another shock for Warner Bros, bringing a significant drop in their stocks as well.
All this is happening, especially after newly appointed CEO David Zaslav ambitiously talked about their ten-year plan for the DC cinematic universe.
However, all is not bad!, There are a few DC projects that are still on their way to release just as they planned.
In the DCEU, Shazam! Spin-off Black Adam is still hitting the theatres on June 23, 2023, whereas another one, Blue Beetle, will release on August 18, 2023.
Apart from that, DCEU’s Suicide Squad spin-off series Peacemaker is still in the development for its second season streaming on HBO Max.
