Apple TV+ provides a wide variety of films to watch from. Their superhero films section is vast and has movies from all the renowned franchises. Here is a list of some of the best superhero films on the platform you can choose to watch, going back to the classics like “The Avengers’’ to fresh new releases like “The Batman”. 

The Batman

The Batman is a long-awaited reboot of the famous superhero film franchise of Batman. Matt Reeves did the film’s direction and the screenplay. The film was released on 4th March 2022.

The film revolves around a dark and grimmer Gotham, different from what we had seen in other Batman films. We see Batman, who has been fighting off crimes for two years in Gotham to unveil the ongoing corruption.

He starts chasing the Riddler, who targets the city’s elites and kills them, and while going after Riddler, he discovers a much darker truth about himself and his city. 

Spider-Man: No Way Home 

Spider-Man: No Way Home is a superhero film based on the marvel comics of Spider-Man. It’s a sequel to the film Spider-Man: Far From Home of the MCU. It was directed by Jon Watts. No way home was released into theatres on 17th December 2021. 

In Far From Home (2019), in the end, Peter’s secret of him being Spider-Man is revealed publicly.

To undo it from ever happening, Peter approaches Dr. Stephen Strange, whom he asks to make his Spider-Man identity a secret. When the spell to erase it goes wrong, the multiverse opens, which brings visitors from other universes to his. 

The Dark Knight

The Dark Knight is the second film of the “The Dark Knight Trilogy.” It is known to be one of the best superhero films ever made. Christopher Nolan directed the film.

Heath Ledger plays the Joker, regarded as one of cinema’s best performances. It was released on 18th July 2008. 

In the film, we see James Gordon, the lieutenant, and Harvey Dent, the district attorney, take down Gotham’s organized crime circle with Batman’s help. All of their work is wasted when Joker puts Gotham in terror and chaos and pushes Batman to see how far he can go to save his city. 

Brightburn

Brightburn is a superhero horror film released in the theatres on 24th May 2019. David Yarovesky directed it.

The film’s plot follows a boy, Brandon Breyer, with extraterrestrial origins who crash-landed on earth. Later on, while growing up, he learns about the superpowers he possesses, which then get activated by the spaceship. Brandon denies his humanity and goes evil, terrorizing his hometown. 

The film, along with the horror element, tries to portray a concept of what would have been the consequences if Superman ever went evil. 

The Suicide Squad

The Suicide Squad is a superhero film based on the DC comics group Suicide Squad. It is a sequel to the 2016 film “Suicide Squad” of the DCEU. The film was directed and written by James Gunn. The film was released in theatres on 5th August 2021.

The plot revolves around a group of skilled and high-profile crime convicts who form a task force to lighten their sentences.

This band would be known as the Suicide Squad. They are sent to Corto Maltese, a nation in South America, to destroy any proof and traces of Starro the Conqueror, an alien starfish, before the government there starts controlling it. 

Black Panther

Black Panther is a Marvel comics-based superhero film released on 16th February 2018. Ryan Coogler directed the film as well as co-wrote it. 

In the film, after his father’s death, T’Challa is named the king of Wakanda, but Killmonger challenges him for the throne; he also aims to go against his country’s rules and policies and start a revolution.

T’Challa as the new king of Wakanda’s people, has to carry their hopes and lead them to a better future. 

Logan

Logan is the final film in the Wolverine trilogy of the X-Men Universe. James Mangold directed the film. Logan was released on 3rd March 2017 in the United States. 

The film follows the “Old Man Logan” storyline from the comics. It shows Wolverine, now aged, along with Charles Xavier, who is ill. Both of them are demonstrated saving a mutant girl named Laura from the clutches of the group called Reavers. 

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is an animated superhero film based on the character of Miles Morales’ spider-man from the comics.

Peter Ramsey, Bob Persichetti, and Rodney Rothman were the film directors. The film was released on 14th December 2018. 

The plot of the film follows a young boy named Miles Morales who takes on to become the new Spider-Man in his universe. Soon he joins several Spider-people from different universes to defeat Kingpin and save his universe. 

Deadpool

Deadpool is a spinoff film in the X-Men series, released on 12th February 2016. Tim Miller directed the film.

A mercenary named Wade Wilson gets experimented on, which gives him mutant abilities but makes him beyond recognizable. He then sets out to find the man who did it and make him pay for it becoming the anti-hero character “Deadpool”.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League

Zack Snyder’s Justice League or “The Snyder Cut” is the director’s cut of the 2017 superhero film Justice League.

This is the fifth film of the DCEU. The film was directed and co-written by Zack Snyder. The film was released on HBO Max on 18th March 2021. 

The film shows the group of heroes: Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Cyborg, along with Superman, who is later revived in the film, forms the Justice League and tries to stop Steppenwolf and his Para demon army from invading Earth and wreaking destruction as commanded by his overlord conqueror Darkseid. 

Thor: Ragnarok

Thor: Ragnarok is the 3rd film in the Thor saga of the MCU. Taika Waititi directed the film. It was released on 13th November 2017. 

In the movie, Asgard is invaded by Hela when Thor is stranded on the planet Sakaar. Thor must reach Asgard in time to save its people from Hela and the destruction the Ragnarok would bring. 

Man of Steel

Man of Steel is a DC Comics film based on the prevalent character of Superman. Zack Snyder directed the film, and Christopher Nolan wrote the story. It was also the first film of the DCEU. Man of Steel was released in theatres on 14th June 2013. 

When Krypton was on the brink of annihilation, a child was sent from the dying planet to Earth, where he would live with humans.

The child, now named Clark Kent, learns about his superpowers and his origin. Clark takes on the cloak of Superman and becomes the hope of the people on Earth when General Zod invades to destroy humanity. 

Venom

Venom is a superhero film based on Marvel Comics of the popular anti-hero Venom. Ruben Fleischer directed the film. It was released on 5th October 2018. 

The film revolves around the protagonist, Eddie Brock, struggling with his career. He becomes the host of an alien symbiote and gains superpowers. The symbiote, Venom, tells Eddie that his species has invaded Earth to seize control over every human and that he is the only way Eddie can save humanity. 

The Avengers

The Avengers is the first film of the popular saga of the same name. It was the sixth installment in the MCU. Joss Whedon directed the film. It was released on 4th May 2012.

The film shows the S.H.E.I.L.D director Nick Fury, who puts a team together with Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Clint Barton, Thor, and Natasha Romanoff. They set out on a mission to stop Thor’s brother Loki from seizing control over Earth and humanity. 

Shazam!

Shazam! is a DC Comics adaptation of the superhero of the same name. David F. Sandberg directed the film. The film was released on 5th April 2019. 

The film’s main protagonist, Billy Batson, is a teenager whom Shazam, an ancient wizard, summons to hand him the champion’s powers and announces him to be his new champion. Billy can chant “Shazam!” and become an adult hero with superpowers. Billy sets out to stop the antagonist, Dr Thaddeus Sivana, and also to understand the potential of his powers. 

Guardians of the Galaxy 

Guardians of the Galaxy is a film in the MCU adapted from comics of the same name. James Gunn directed the film. It was released on 1st August 2014. 

The film shows Peter Quill (Starlord), along with his group of intergalactic criminals, who go after a precious artifact to steal it.

But they are pulled into the chaos created by a War fanatic who schemes to purge the entire universe with the same artifact. 

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the 25th film of the MCU. Destin Daniel Cretton directed it. Shang-Chi was released in theatres on 3rd September 2021. 

The film follows Shang-Chi, who is summoned by his father, Wenwu, along with his sister Xiang. His father is the head of the Ten Rings Organisation, an ancient criminal organization. Shang-Chi is tasked with searching for a mythical village for which he will be tested.
