Bad news for Vampire diaries fans with Netflix subscribers who were used to watching the show every now and then.
Also, for people with Netflix subscriptions who were planning to watch the show or were halfway through!
The Vampire Diaries is now no longer streaming on Netflix but not to worry, as you can still watch it on other platforms where it is now available on.
One of the longest-running supernatural dramas, originally aired on The CW from 2009 to 2017, is not available on Netflix to watch.
CW’s The Vampire Dairies first premiered on Netflix in 2011, an output deal between the streaming platform Netflix and the network The CW.
The deal was for the full eight-season series to be available on Netflix eight days after the season finale aired on The CW.
But this changed in 2019 when the parent companies of The CW, then Viacom CBS and WarnerMedia, decided not to renew this deal.
They instead chose to gather all their existing shows to put on their own respective streaming services, i.e., Paramount+ and HBO Max, to make a bigger library of movies and tv shows.
So, now you can find The Vampire Diaries Streaming on HBO Max.
Apart from there, you can also find The Vampire Diaries’ entire season now streaming on Peacock.
The creator of the series Julie Plec took to Twitter to give this happy surprise to the fans on Sunday, September 4th, that the show is now available on Peacock.
She wrote, “I mean, just a little surprise announcement on a Sunday. #TVD is now also streaming on @peacockTV.
So, there is not much clarity on why TVD is streaming both on HBO Max and Peacock. The reason for streaming on HBO Max is simply because of the same parent company, and they wanted to bulk up HBO Max with more tv shows.
Also, as for streaming on Peacock, it can be a set deal with this emerging streaming platform. Also, Plec’s new series Vampire Academy is going to make a debut on the Peacock itself later in this month only.
The Vampire Diaries is a show with eight seasons and 171 episodes, where its finale was aired on March 10, 2017.
The show is based on a series of novels with the same title penned by L.J Smith.
The story is about this teenager Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), who lost her parents in a car accident and came to fall in love with Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley), found to be a 162-year-old vampire.
But things become even more complicated when Stefan’s brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder), another vampire but more notorious, comes into the picture, who also falls in love with Elena creating a love triangle between them.
Now, it is about these two vampire brothers protecting Elena against supernatural threats in a town full of mysteries.
The show features memorable characters and a stellar cast, such as Kat Grahm as Bonnie Bennett, Candice King as Caroline Forbes, Matthew Davis as Alaric Saltzman, Phoebe Tonkin as Hayley Marshall, Michael Trevino as Tyler Lockwood, Zach Roerig as Matt Donovan, and others as well.
TVD became such a success that it incepted two spinoffs: The Originals (2013-2018) with five seasons and Legacies (2018-2022) with four seasons ending in June.
The Originals is about the original family vampire returning to their city New Orleans to reclaim it, which is now ruled by another vampire Marcel.
It focuses primarily on the original vampire family, Klaus, Elijah and Rebecca, soon joined by their other members against threats against them and the city.
The show features a stellar cast, some from TVD and a lot more new as well, such as Phoebe Tonkin as Hayley, Danielle Campbell as Davina, Charles Michael Davis as Marcel, Leah Pipes as Camille, Riley Voelkel as Freya Mikaelson, Nathaniel Buzolic as Kol Mikaelson, Yusuf Gatewood as Vincent Griffith and others.
Legacies is a series about Hope Mikkelson, daughter of original vampire hybrid Klaus and Hayley, learning to control her powers as a tribrid in a school opened by Alaric Saltzman for young witches, vampires, and werewolves.
The show features a great cast such as Danielle Rose Russell as Hope Mikaelson, Matthew Davis as Alaric Saltzman, Kaylee Bryant as Josie Saltzman, Peyton ‘Alex’ Smith as Rafael Waithe, Aria Shahghasemi as Landon Kirby, Jenny Boyd as Lizzie Saltzman and more.
Both TVD spin-off, fortunately, is still streaming on Netflix. However, it is presumed that both series, The Originals and Legacies, might soon shift to HBO Max in 2023 and 2027, respectively, as their deal ends.
The showrunner Julie Plec talked about how there is always a possibility of future spin-offs and additions to this TVD universe, which is hopeful news for fans.
She said, “There’s always an opportunity to continue the story, and it’s really more a matter of when and not if,” to TV insider.
