Tusk 2 Updates: Justin Long Reveals Kevin Smith Developing Sequel, Story And Plot Teased

After eight years of the movie Tusk, directed by Kevin Smith, it is now confirmed that this horror is getting its sequel.

This film was one of the wildest horror whacky movies ever, and now Smith is going to take another swing to make his second horror movie Tusk 2, the sequel.

So, you can expect Justin Long against to be turning into this horrifying whacky, and weird human-walrus hybrid. Quite surprising to get this unexpected sequel coming to the big screen after almost a decade!

Kevin Smith, who has been working on this movie for quite some time, has been teasing the idea to the people, but finally, we are getting some more details about it.

So earlier, it was revealed by the actor Justin Long himself where he said to Slash films this week only, “You’ll be happy to hear, Kevin [Smith] just announ– I mean, I guess they’re talking about it. They’re doing ‘Tusk 2,’ I think,”

He further said, “He texted us all the other day, Haley [Joel Osment] and Genesis [Rodriguez], and he told us that he wanted to do it, and I thought it was a joke. And then I realized he was being serious. And then one of the [other] interviewers said, ‘Yeah, he said the same to me.’”

Now another update came that Kevin Smith himself further confirmed the news, and more details about Tusk 2 plans and plot details also teased it.

Tusk, at the time of its release in 2014, a horror comedy film, was the second movie for Smith to direct, a quite different route from his earlier film Red State, a horror thriller.

This film was quite a departure from his usual style of movies, or at least he did so far, which was more horror and thriller.

Tusk was the kind of horror-comedy with quite polarized views on the movie, especially from critics and the audience.

Despite the mixed reviews, Tusk got at the time. It was earlier intended to get a trilogy of itself and even named The True North Trilogy.

‘Tusk 2’ Movie Recent Updates

Recently, Kevin Smith talked about his developments on the sequel Tusk 2, opened up his plans for the sequel, and even teased the story’s details or plot.

“Ever since the heart attack I’ve been living on borrowed time. 2024 will mark the 10-year anniversary of Tusk…We could just leave it there and move on, but you know, I’ve got more story left I’d like to tell, there’s a reason we left him in the zoo at the end. I always knew as we were making the movie I was just like, ‘I’ll totally do this again.’ I thought we’d have the late great Michael Parks with us longer, but, sadly he’s not, but I know we got Justin (Long). Early on I was always like, Well, eventually, they’ll take them out of that walrus skin and try to rehabilitate them. And just like Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight Returns, he’ll only ever see himself one way.”

He further talked about what this sequel might entail as the story to respect the earlier movie in the series.

“Then he becomes the Howard Howe, Justin Long becomes the crazy guy who’s trying to turn people into something else, Chimera things, half-human and half-whatever. Last time it was walrus, this time…you’ll see. I would be stupid not to make what I’m calling Tusk$. And yes, just like when Jim Cameron pitched Aliens, the ‘S’ in Tusks has a dollar sign through it, kids. It has everything to do with the plot of the story, but it’s also just me nakedly communicating my ambition that I’m going to correct the past. If you live long enough, sometimes you do sh-t just to be like…I don’t think we were wrong, I think we were early.”

‘Tusk 2’ Was Teased By Kevin Smith Himself Way Back

So this is not the first time Tusk 2 was mentioned by Kevin Smith himself. Before Justin Long shared announced that Smith is working on the script, there was another mention about it as well.

Back in August 2020, Smith himself teased the very fact that a sequel might be coming. It happened while him chatting to the fans on Twitch.

Here’s what Kevin Smith said at that time :

“I’m shocked we got away with Tusk one but I’ll be honest with you, I do have a story for Tusk 2. The great Michael Parks, who played Howard Howe, the guy who turns Wallace into a Walrus, sadly passed away a couple of years ago. Amazing actor that I got to work with twice. But, in the ending of Tusk, if I wanted to be a commercial filmmaker which apparently I’ve never wanted to be, I would have ended the film when Guy La Pointe comes in and raises his shotgun and you’d just hear the walrus [scream] and we cut to black.”

He further continued, actually teasing that Tusk 2 might happen soon; he said :

“There’s a version of Tusk 2 that you do where… you cut to the present, and somebody else gets sucked into the spider’s web. The house, you hear stories, and when you get to the house, the new Howard Howe is Wallace, who has gotten out of the walrus trappings and stuff and is obviously disturbed by his entire ordeal and is now doing it to others. So there’s a way to do Tusk 2 where Justin becomes Michael Parks’s character. Wallace becomes, sort of, the new Howard Howe. So yea, that’s possible. Tusk 2 is possible.”

What important takeaway from Smith’s recent discussion is their team wasn’t really wrong about the first movie as it was implemented many times, but instead, they were quite early in their approach or release.

So, now it will be truly exciting to wait for this film with much more conviction in story, vfx, and performances. Until, Tusk 2 releases, you can always revisit the first film Tusk streaming on HBO Max.
