Top 10 Must-Watch Sci-Fi Movies On Disney+

Disney+ is certainly one of the most exciting streaming services out there. With a massive catalog of movies, Disney has also produced many epics of its own.

Being the home of Disney, Marvel, and national geographic, Disney Plus certainly has a lot to offer. Disney also owns Lucasfilm, thus all the star wars movies are also available on their streaming service.

But what about us Sci-Fi movie freaks?

Science fiction aka Sci-Fi or SF is a genre that is a fusion of concepts like future tech and mind-bending science such as parallel universes, time-space paradoxes, aliens, and immortality.

A fun fact is that many of the earlier sci-fi movies were able to predict how the future tech might look like.

Movies like blade runner, 2001: A space odyssey have all been so forward for their time that it almost feels like a miracle that they even existed at a time when technology was just trying to catch up,

These qualities of science fiction movies make them a quintessential part of our culture. Disney+ has its fair share of Sci-Fi classics out there, but many of them might not be your cup of tea.

Here is our list of some of the best Sci-Fi movies that you can enjoy on Disney+.

X-Men Days Of Future Past is an action-packed sci-fi movie and the title of this movie more than justifies its futuristic nature.

This movie explores the concept of time travel and its consequences.

Mix it in a couple of mutants, and you have a cult classic.

Wolverine (played by none other than Hugh Jackman) travels back in time to prevent a mishap caused by mystique.

Mystique is destined to assassinate Bolivar Trask and his death eventually leads to the creation of sentinels.

These sentinels are no joke. They can absorb the mutant’s power and use it against them.

This eventually leads to the complete and utter destruction of the mutants and also leaves the earth destroyed.

The key to stopping this event is Mystique (played by the extremely talented and beautiful Jennifer Lawrence).

Will Wolverine be able to successfully change the future by going back to the past?

What will be the consequences of this for the X-Men?

X-Men Days Of Future Past serve as a sequel to X-Men: First Class and X-Men: The Last Stand.

The obvious thing working for this movie is its cast and the plot.

Filled with twisted concepts, this movie delivers an exciting story that changes the complete timeline of X-Men movies.

Captain America: Civil War

Well, civil war literally means war amongst allies.

In this epic, we find ourselves in an all-out fight between Team Iron Man and Team Captain America.

The first part of the movie acts as a sequel to the winter soldier and follows Bucky Barnes aka the winter soldier.

Steve must find a way to save his old friend from false accusations and he is here to do just that.

The movie slowly explores the differences between the ideologies of our two original avengers.

Iron Man is all up for making the Avengers follow government orders because he is guilt-ridden.

On the other hand, Captain America thinks it’s a bad decision, and voila we have a civil war.

Many people call this movie Avengers 2.5, and it does feel like that in the last act.

Yet it manages to act as a direct sequel to Captain America: the winter soldier.

All in all, it’s way better than avengers age of Ultron, and many fans consider this to be a true sequel to the First Avenger movie, and for good reasons.

This movie has the action, and the drama and has light sci-fi elements like enhanced strength, cybernetics, and science weapons created by Hydra but they do not bog down the emotional punch that this movie delivers.

Directed by the one and only James Cameron, Avatar is not just a movie. It’s an experience.

If you have seen this movie on the big screen, you know what I mean.

Notorious for developing new techniques of filming, James Cameron filmed this movie using a modified 3-D fusion camera System.

Unlike those other movies that are made using standard cameras and then transferred to 3D, Avatar is shot completely in 3-D.

If you missed it when it was released, then you can now enjoy it at your home on Disney Plus.

With its sequel “Avatar: The Way Of Water” coming to big screens soon, it is the perfect time to watch this epic masterpiece.

This movie revolves around the topic of extraterrestrial life. The Na’vi (an extraterrestrial life form) live in their beautiful world of Pandora.

These beings look a bit like humans but are blue in color and very different in biology.

They are a highly evolved species, but they live in a primitive manner.

Our protagonist Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) finds himself in a crisis when he is given the orders to explore the wild terrains of Pandora.

Explore the world of Pandora with an ex-marine who is paralyzed but can now walk freely due to a special technology that allows linking the human mind with a Na’vi.

John Carter

John Carter is a well-crafted story about a civil war veteran who mysteriously finds himself waking up on the surface of Mars. Hooked yet?

Well, this movie is a sci-fi gem, but sadly a lot of people don’t know about it.

It has an intriguing premise and the VFX are also better than many movies released in the same year.

Due to Mars’s lower gravity, john carter is much stronger than an average Martian and is able to take them down with ease.

The plot is certainly incomprehensible at times, but it has all the little things that you want from a sci-fi movie like planetary travel, extraterrestrial beings, mystical objects, and a compelling hero.

All in all, it’s a great light-hearted flick to watch while you are chilling with your friends.
