It’s that time of year again when lists are appropriate. Making these is interesting because you suddenly have to choose what from 2015 was truly noteworthy. 

It turns out that many films were. 

2015 was a fantastic year for new films. Romantic Carol, strong biographies The big short, outlandish science fiction star wars, and grand historical dramas make their way to the big screen.

We’ve compiled a list of the 15 films that most moved and inspired us, provided food for thought, and wowed us with their visual effects, like Inside out(3D rendering)

The film The Big Short is about the 2008 financial crisis and the people who saw it coming.

The film The Big Short (2015) is about Michael Burry, a hedge fund manager who predicted the U.S. housing market collapse.

The film is based on the book of the same name by Michael Lewis. It follows Burry’s decision to bet against the U.S. housing market and how he and other traders saw an opportunity in what others thought was an impossible economic situation.

The story follows three hedge fund managers who predicted and bet against the subprime mortgage crisis.

There are three distinct, though related, accounts of the 2005 U.S. mortgage housing crisis.

One-eyed Scion Capital hedge fund manager Michael Burry, an eccentric ex-doctor, has ditched the customary business uniform for shorts, bare feet, and a Supercuts haircut. Burry is free to act however he pleases within the corporation, so he decides to wager against the housing market with the banks. According to him, the U.S. housing market is resting on a bubble that will eventually pop. 

The banks are eager to accept his idea for something that has never occurred in American history.

The screenplay, written by McKay and Charles Randolph, is based on the 2010 book ‘The Big Short” by Michael Lewi.

Star Wars- Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015)

 Co-written by J. J. Abrams. Rey, a scavenger from the desert, and Finn, a former stormtrooper, must team up with Han Solo and Chewbacca to seek the only possibility of reestablishing peace as a new threat to the galaxy emerges.

It is the first installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy and the seventh installment of the main Star Wars film series,after Return of the Jedi (1983).

J.J. Abrams directed The Force Awakens, a 2015 American epic space opera film.

Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Harrison Ford, and John Boyega are among the cast members, and Oscar Isaac is featured in the picture.

The story picks up thirty years later in The Force Awakens Return of the Jedi (1983), with Luke Skywalker having vanished while in self-imposed exile on Ahch-To, alongside General Leia Organa and her Resistance forces who are trying to fight off First Order attacks led by Supreme Leader Snoke and Kylo Ren. 

While Rey tries to find Luke to bring him back into society to help save them from this new threat from Supreme Leader Snoke’s army, a part of that army captures Finn called The First.

Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)

Mad Max: Fury Road is a post-apocalyptic action film released in 2015 movie. The movie takes place in 2045 after the nuclear war devastated the world.

 Humanity is barely surviving, and water and gasoline are scarce commodities.

The story’s plot follows Max Rockatansky, played by Tom Hardy, who finds engulfed in a group traveling across the Wasteland in a War Rig piloted by Imperator Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron.

Pursued by Immortan Joe’s henchmen, this group eventually breaks free from their captors and attempts to cross the desert back to civilization.

An apocalyptic story set at the very ends of our world, in a brutal desert setting where civilization is broken, and practically everyone is mad battling for life’s needs. 

Within this universe, there are two rebels on the run who may be able to restore order. There’s Max, a man of action and few words who seeks peace of mind after losing his wife and child amid the mayhem.

 Me & Earl and the Dying Girl (2015)

It is based on a 2012 novel by Jesse Andrews. Coming-of-age film. 

The story focuses on Greg Gaines, an introverted high school student in Pittsburgh who is forced to become friends with Rachel Kushner after Earl has been diagnosed with cancer.

Greg Gaines (Thomas Mann) is an introverted high school student who spends most of his time making videos with his best friend Earl (R.J. Cyler). 

Greg’s father died when he was young, so now he lives with his mother, Susan (Connie Britton), who owns a video rental store called Video Hut. 

One day at school, Greg’s teacher gives him a book called “The Price of Salt,” which he must read for homework.

Greg, a seventeen-year-old from Pittsburgh, has managed to fit into every social circle at his high school without making any friends. 

However, his life changes when his mother encourages him to befriend Rachel, a girl he met in Hebrew school with leukemia.

 He starts reading the book but becomes embarrassed when reading it in public.

Steve Jobs (2015)

The film is based on the same-named book by Walter Isaacson. The film is a biopic of Steve Jobs, and it follows his life from 1974 to 2011. 

It portrays Jobs as a visionary, genius, and pioneer in personal computers.

The film starts in 1984 when Steve Jobs is 27 years old and has dropped out of college. 

He works at an apple store with his friend Stephen Wozniak (played by Seth Rogen). They have just come up with a new idea for a computer that can be used by everyday people called Macintosh.

In 1985, Steve Jobs left Apple because he felt like he had been pushed out by John Sculley, who was brought in to run the company. 

After all, it was going through financial difficulties. He starts NeXT Inc., which makes high-end computers for universities and businesses, but they are not successful enough to save him from bankruptcy in the 1990s. Steve Jobs then rejoins Apple.

His enthusiasm and brilliance were the driving forces behind the digital age. His desire to transform technology, however, was self-sacrificing. 

It eventually had an impact on his family life and even his health.

 Room (I) (2015)

The movie tells the story of a mother held captive for seven years with her son in an enclosed space.

The movie’s plot revolves around a woman named Ma (Brie Larson) and her son Jack, who has never left Room (I), where they have been held captive for seven years. One day Ma manages to escape from the Room with her son, but it takes them a while to adapt to their new life outside.

After being held and imprisoned in an enclosed place for seven years, a lady and her young son are eventually released, allowing the kid to be exposed to the outer world for the first time.

The incredible story of Jack, a vibrant 5-year-old cared for by his loving and devoted mother, is told in ROOM. 

Like any good mother, Ma devotes herself to keeping Jack happy and safe, nourishing him with warmth and affection, and engaging in routine activities such as playing games and telling stories. 

Their lives, however, are anything from ordinary; they are captive, confined to a 10-by-10-foot area dubbed “Room” by Ma. 

Ma has constructed an entire universe for Jack within “Room,” and she will continue to do so, going to any length to guarantee that Jack can live a complete and fulfilling existence even in this difficult environment.

 Victoria (II) (2015)

In Victorian England, the movie was set in 1837. The story starts with a woman named Victoria, who has just become Queen of England. 

A young Spanish woman who has recently arrived in Berlin discovers that her relationship with a local boy can turn deadly when their night out with his pals discloses a frightening secret.

She is only 18 years old and unprepared to be queen. She has never been trained for it and does not know how to rule.

The movie shows her struggles with the role of being a queen, her marriage to Prince Albert, her relationship with her mother and her family, as well as the different problems that arise in the country during this period. 

It also shows some of Victoria’s challenges, such as being pregnant with nine children and having an affair with one of her husband’s aides, which led to a scandal for both parties involved. 

The movie ends by showing Victoria’s death at age 81 in 1901 after reigning for 63 years.

Sicario (2015)

Kate Macer directs the F.B.I.’s kidnap response section in Phoenix. Kate is recruited to work on a special ops team led by Matt Graver of the C.I.A., who is on particular assignment for the Department of Defense after her team leads a raid on a known drug house in neighboring Chandler. 

They hired her because they needed someone familiar with tactical operations. 

Outwardly, the unit’s purpose, which works alongside a Delta Force team if needed, is to decapitate a Mexican drug cartel by arresting or dismembering the top actors, cartel chief Manuel Daz, his second in command Guillermo Daz, drug lord Fausto Alarcón. Kate accepts the project because she believes it will help her.

The third squad member is a strange Hispanic or Latino man named Alejandro, whom Kate does not fully trust because she can see he has a painful past. 

When Kate and the crew arrive in El Paso for their first mission, Kate discovers that the team’s operations are not as they look on the surface, with many of the procedures not being deemed above board or legal, despite the final aim being as she knows it to be. 

Kate, who is still mostly in the dark and is only provided information on a need-to-know basis, vows to stick it out with the team if only to learn everything she isn’t told while still believing.

It is a 2015 American crime thriller film written by Taylor Sheridan. It tells the story of Kate Macer, an F.B.I. agent enlisted by an elite.

A federal task force has been formed to take down the leader of a strong and brutal Mexican drug cartel.

The movie was released on September 18, 2015, in North America and grossed $47 million worldwide against its $30 million budget. 

The film received critical acclaim, earning praise for its performances (particularly from Emily Blunt), cinematography, musical score, sound effects, editing, and direction.

The Revenant (2015)

Hugh Glass (DiCaprio) is a frontiersman who embarks on a road of vengeance against people who abandoned him after a bear mauling in 1823. The Revenant is an American epic film released in 2015.

The movie climax is a vital part of the movie that many critics and audiences have discussed.

The movie’s end is crucial because it shows how revenge can harm the person who gets it, as well as those around them.

Hugh Glass, a famed frontiersman, is injured by a violent bear assault while exploring unknown terrain in 1823. 

The glass must use his survival abilities to find a way back home while dodging natives on their hunt after his hunting crew abandons him for dead.

The Danish Girl is a British-American biographical drama film released in 2015 based on David Ebershoff’s 2000 novel of the same name.

Eddie Redmayne as Lili Elbe, a transgender woman who, in 1930s Europe, is married to fellow painter Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander).

A made-up love story based on the lives of Danish artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Lili and Gerda’s marriage and careers evolve as Lili embarks on her trailblazing path as a transgender pioneer.

Alicia Vikander and Eddie Redmayne’s characters, Einar Wegener and Gerda, are a happily married pair.

Both are artists, with she preferring portraiture and Einar favoring landscapes. One day, Einar dresses up and takes a picture of himself with Gerda. 

This is done for fun, just like when you show up to a party dressed as a lady. But Einar quickly realizes that she is a lady, and over time, she prefers being called Lili. 

She and Gerda initially try to “treat” Lili for her condition, but this has little effect (other than many doctors seeking to get Lili locked up as a pervert and/or mad). 

She would eventually undertake the first-ever sex-change procedure due to her journey of self-discovery.

Inside Out (I) (2015)

Inside Out (I) is a 2015 American 3D computer-animated comedy-drama film. It was released on June 19, 2015, and has grossed $356 million worldwide.

The film depicts Riley Andersen’s emotional journey as she moves from Minnesota to San Francisco with her family. 

The film focuses on the personified emotions in Headquarters, the control center of 11-year-old Riley’s mind. 

The emotions try to lead her through life as she deals with new issues such as depression, loss, and loneliness. 

Young Riley’s emotions—Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust, and Sadness—conflict as she adjusts to a new city, home, and school after being torn from her existence in the Midwest and brought to San Francisco.

 Carol (2015)

Carol is a romantic drama film that tells the story of two women, Carol and Therese, who are in love with each other. 

The movie follows the lives of Therese Belivet, a young aspiring photographer who has just moved to New York City, and Carol Aird, an established yet lonely department store saleswoman. 

The story begins when Carol’s department store co-workers decide to give her a Christmas present by sending her on a blind date with another woman. 

This leads to an unexpected romance between Therese and Carol that develops over time.

The Price of Salt, a pioneering book by Patricia Highsmith, was adapted into the groundbreaking film CAROL, which follows two women from completely different backgrounds who have an unanticipated love affair in 1950s New York. 

An honest story that demonstrates the heart’s resiliency in the face of change unfolds as the social conventions of the time question their undeniable attraction. 

Therese Belivet (Rooney Mara), a young woman in her 20s working as a Manhattan department store clerk, dreams of an entire existence when she meets Carol (Cate Blanchett), a seductive lady entangled in a convenient but loveless marriage.

The Martian (2015)

The Martian is a movie based on the novel by Andy Weir. 

Mark Watney is a botanist who is part of an Ares 3 crew that goes to Mars for a mission.

When he wakes up from being knocked unconscious during an extreme storm, he finds out that he has been left for dead, and everyone else has already left for Earth. He must find ways to survive on Mars until NASA can rescue him.

After his crew mistakenly believes he is dead, an astronaut is left stranded on Mars and must use his resourcefulness to figure out how to contact Earth and let them know he is alive and capable of surviving until a possible rescue.

His crew leaves behind astronaut Mark Watney during a manned trip to Mars after being assumed dead following a violent storm. 

However, Watney has survived and is alone and alone on a dangerous planet. With scant resources, he must rely on his inventiveness, wit, and spirit to survive and figure out how to let Earth know that he is still alive.

In the depth of winter in Wyoming, a bounty hunter and his prisoner seek refuge in a cabin now occupied by a gang of evil people.

They run into Major Marquis Warren (a well-known bounty hunter) and Chris Mannix (a man claiming to be Red Rock’s new sheriff) along the way. 

After becoming stranded in a blizzard, the group finds refuge at Minnie’s Haberdashery. When they arrive, they are greeted by unusual faces: Bob, who claims to be looking after the place while Minnie is away; Oswaldo Mobray, Red Rock’s hangman; Joe Gage, a cow puncher; and Confederate General Sanford Smithers. 

The eight pilgrims arrive as the storm sweeps across the mountainside.

John “The Hangman” Ruth, a brutal bounty hunter in the post-Civil War Wyoming mountains, braves an impending blizzard to carry Daisy Domergue, his chained prisoner, to Red Rock so she may face a murder trial. 

John and his new unpleasant traveling companions, Major Marquis Warren, a fellow bounty hunter, and Chris Mannix, who will soon be named sheriff of Red Rock, will have little alternative but to seek refuge in Minnie’s Haberdashery as the snowfall approaches.
