Tom Ellis starrer Lucifer came to an end with its final season 6 concluding in September, 2021, last year.
This urban fantasy television series recieved a huge fan base of its own still left hungry for more but the show indeed ended with its final sixth season.
But fans wonder, what if we can get a spin-off of the show, doesn’t matter whether it is a sequel or prequel, or a spin-off where a story focusses on one character or a time period.
Well, now there might be some talks about a potential sequel for this show.
Lucifer is basically, one of the most popular characters created by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth and Mike Dringenberg for DC Comics.
The series is about this handsome and charming angel who was thrown out of Heaven to rebel against the god. And now as a devil, he overlooks the hell punishing the damned souls but after a millenia of doing that, he become increasingly bored of his job and quite unhappy.
So the devil ends up abandoning his kingdom of hell defying his father, the literal God to restart his life again in Los Angeles where he is a proud owner of a nightclub called Lux.
But soon he find himself get involved in a murder investigation and he helps Detective Chloe Decker who piqued her interest in her.
Apparently he does really well helping the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) solve crime by using his powers of manipulating humans to tell their deepest darkest desires.
The devil even eventually became the consutlant for the LAPD but throughout this journey with Chloe, solving crime, they encounter many supernatural beings and cosmic beings.
Also, there is a relationship brewing between the detective and Lucifer which becomes the emotiaonl crux of the show.
The show features a stellar cast such as Tom Ellis as Lucifer Morningstar, Lauren German as Detective Chloe Decker, D.B Woodside as Amenadiel, Rachael Harris as Dr. Linda Martin, Kevin Alejandro as Detective Espinoza ( Dan) and Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez.
The show has faced a lot as just after the first three seasons airing on Fox, the show was cancelled but later Netflix decided to pick it up again and continue with season 4 streaming exclusively on Netflix.
And this big change was also because of the viral social media campaign ran by the fans with #SaveLucifer.
Earlier, the show was supposed to end with season 5 but it came out as a surprise for fans when Netfllix and Warner Bros. TV decided to give the show a season 6 renewal.
The last season also went full-on as everything you could possibly expect from a show named Lucifer featuring the devil expanding the lore of the Lucifer universe, finally ending it up with God himself showing up.
But even though the show ended almost a year ago, showrunners doesn’t seem to let go of it, atleast they are considering the possiblity of a spin-off from this show.
This comes directly from the co-showrunner Joe Henderson as he spoke in his latest interview with TVLine, here’s what he said :
“There are always talks about spinoffs…. I mean, honestly, especially early on, yes — and then one of the big things we focused on making sure we told as much story with all of our characters, knowing this was our one shot, as possible, and then finishing the season and then discussing any spinoffs after. Especially once we made Maze a bounty hunter, all that stuff, we fantasy-created that show in our heads. There was a bunch of times, especially Seasons 2, 3 and 4, when we saw all of the potential of these characters. Then we sort of refocused on, “How do we make sure that we tell every story we can with them with the time we have?” And then if we are ever lucky to have future spinoffs, we will have to be clever enough to find a new story.”
He was also asked about the Netflix’s Sandman adaptation of character Devil and what are his thoughts on this version of Lucifer, played by Game of Thrones’s Gwendoline Christie.
Henderson stated how he really loved her performance as well as this version of Lucifer, and also why it is better Tom Ellis not playing the character.
Some TV shows make it obvious where you can see a spin-off coming from one or two characters, if possible.
But with Lucifer having so many sub-plots and characters, you can think of few with not much assurance which will be doable at the time, especially how their plots ended in season 6.
You can expect to see Amenadiel who becomes the new God in the season 6 ending, so perhaps we can see how God works out.
Or as the showrunners suggested, Maze and Eve as a bounty hunter couple fighting supernatural beings along with their relationship troubles, this sounds amazing as a spin-off.
Another is, finding out Amandiel and Dr. Linda’s son having angelic powers, perhaps we can get his story with a time jump, maybe him as an angel-human hybrid teenager whose father is god and uncle is ruling the hell.
But it is still hard to say at this point as actors of the show have moved on with their other projects.
So, only we can do is hope for a spin-off coming from Lucifer universe with lots of Lucifer references, and some cameos as well, but it is still too soon to say anything.
